{Statement} : NPP Not Keeping Promise Of Maintaining Peace And Security

The New Patriotic Party led by President Nana Addo has not been able to live up to its promise of protecting lives and properties as stated in “Chapter 14” of the 2016 New Patriotic Party Manifesto.

“The NPP Government will secure peace and security for all Ghanaians. Under the NPP Government, Ghanaians will feel safe on the streets and in their homes. Ghanaians will go about their daily business in the secure knowledge that their persons, properties and lives are safe under an NPP Government” the NPP promised.

However what we have seen, 11 months after the NPP was sworn in power has been a surge in vigilantism. According to a report by Citi FM Online as at mid-October, 2017, 18 vigilante incidences have been recorded since NPP won the 2016 general elections. The incidences have in most cases led to the destruction of properties and attacks on the lives of citizens.

Ghana Election Promises would like to call on President Nana Addo to raise to the occasion and stop rampant vigilante activities by ensuring that all groups and individuals behind such acts are brought to book. The NPP must actualize a believe they posited in their own manifesto, “NPP believes that the strict enforcement of our existing laws by our security agencies, without selectivity, will go a long way to sanitize our nation, assuage the fears of the citizenry and dramatically transform our society”.

This we believe would stop recurrent vigilantism happening under his watch as President.

We would be monitoring the reactions of Government and steps deployed to stop this worrying trend.
